The renovation of the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, New York is something that has to be a priority for the people of Upstate New York in the upcoming years, as it has gone downhill in the recent years.

For the average fan of Syracuse University athletics, there is no doubt about it- a dome that gives fans the option to go to games and sit in seats with cushions and cup holders would make everybody happier would be worth every penny in somebody’s bank account… as long as it isn’t their savings account.

Even though Syracuse University really does have endowment money, there is no way that they can afford to build a dome that is going to cost an arm and a leg when they are going to have to build another new dome in a few decades. Saying that, Syracuse University should do everything in their power to avoid building a new dome.

Instead of building a new dome, they should try to remodel it. Even though it would take an extended period of time and may be a tough time economically during the process, it would be worth it in the end. It’s not like the dome couldn’t be used during the renovations because it very well could be.

The number one priority for Syracuse University surrounding this project should be getting a new roof and finding a way to get that done. Even though you may not realize it, the football and the lacrosse team can play there and just pretend that it is an outdoor stadium.

Because of that, Syracuse University could decide to start the roof immediately following the basketball season and then they could have a new roof by the beginning of the next basketball season.

The seating situation is something else that has to be addressed when they remodel the Carrier Dome. Instead of having chairs with seats that are so uncomfortable that people would rather have to sit on a rock, Syracuse University should consider putting bench seats in that have an extra cushion for comfort.

Because the dome doesn’t have a season off, it wouldn’t be a very good idea to remodel the whole thing at once. If they did, nobody would be able to go to any of the home games for Syracuse athletics because they would be removing every seat. The university would feel the affects of that very quickly because of the decrease and absence of ticket sales.

To avoid that, they could be patient by removing and replacing the current seating a section at a time. That way, their ticket sales are still going to be decreasing, but, it won’t have as much of an impact on the amount of money that ticket sales bring to Syracuse University, because, instead of having an empty gym during the games, they can have fans in all but one section.

The renovation of the Carrier Dome must be a priority for Syracuse University and people in that area throughout the next few years.
