The loss to West Genesee proved to make Fayetteville-Manlius a better lacrosse team, as F-M’s head coach, Chris Kenneally, emphasized to his team after their 17-5 home win over Baldwinsville.

It was the second straight runaway victory for the Hornets (4-1) coming off of the lone loss of the season and saw F-M dominate the middle two quarters like the win over LaFayette did three days prior to it.

Early on, nobody would have predicted that the game would have been as lopsided as it was. Both teams scored a pair of goals in the first quarter, but, the closeness of this game didn’t last long.

The hosts found themselves in more control of this contest than they did when they picked LaFayette apart.

Against LaFayette, the Hornets scored 12 goals in the second and third frames while only conceding two, but, this game watched them hold Baldwinsville scoreless and deposit 14 goals in the same time frame.

Kenneally told his team that he was happy with their performance. His assistant coaches shared their feelings about contest at various points in the game, mostly by stating that they were shocked by how it was playing out.

Seven guys scored for the Hornets and then it was a team effort defensively. Kenneally continuously preached the importance of being physical, but, he kept on reminding his team that the most important thing was not to get penalized.

The Hornets would commit four penalties, but, it wasn’t anything that their potent offense couldn’t overcome.

Donovan Welsh led the way with an eye-opening ten points, which was a season-high for him. The senior led the way with six goals and four assists and was a constant distraction for the opposing defense, which allowed other Hornet players to step up and contribute.

Mac Fish and Luke Burnam were the players who found themselves breaking free because of the attention that Welsh drew. The two attackmen scored three goals apiece as midfielder James Rettinger found the back of the net twice.

Ryan Cicci, Tommy Ryu, and Bryan Farry also scored. It was Farry’s first goal of the season and the fourth of the year for both Cicci and Ryu.

F-M received contributions from a variety of players in their victory over Baldwinsville.
